Rich History & Culture

Nestled in the heart of Southeast Georgia, Bulloch County traces its roots back to 1796, when it was officially established and named after Revolutionary War hero Archibald Bulloch. With Statesboro as the county seat, the area began as a small agricultural community and blossomed with the arrival of the railroad in the late 1800s, transforming it into a thriving hub of commerce and education. The founding of Georgia Southern University in 1906 brought waves of innovation, growth, and cultural enrichment that continue today.

Bulloch County’s strong sense of identity is reflected in its rich history, charming downtowns, and vibrant arts and music scenes. From historic trails and preserved buildings to performances at the Averitt Center for the Arts and rising stars in country and folk music, Bulloch County celebrates its past while looking forward. A walk through downtown Statesboro or a visit to one of its local museums is a reminder that this community values heritage, creativity, and connection.
